Strong August for Furniture and Home Furnishing Stores

According to a report released 9/15/17 by the U.S. Department of Commerce showing estimated sales for retail and food service, furniture and home furnishing stores were among the leaders in August. The report shows sales increasing in the furniture and home furnishing category by 5.4% over August 2016 and 0.8% in the period for March through May 2017. Other leading categories include non-store retailers who were up 8.4%, building materials and garden equipment, who were up 7.5% and gas stations who were up 6.4%. A good overall economy and strong housing market are being seen as driving the increases.
