Transpacific Eastbound PSS Update
To Our Valued Customers:
Peak Season Surcharge: Despite a strengthening of demand for space and capacity in the Transpacific Eastbound trade, carriers have postponed the effective date of the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) from July 15, 2017 to August 1, 2017. Each carrier has a slightly different PSS amount filed in their tariff, but the majority of carriers have filed $540/20’, $600/40’, $675/HQ, $770/45’. We do expect some rate increase to impact the market on August 1, 2017 to reflect the anticipated increase in peak retail shipping demand, and that that upward pressure on market rate levels may continue through the October 1, 2017 National Day Holiday in China. However, with all the uncertainty remaining with new alliances structures, carrier merger activity, the cyberattack still impacting Maersk Line, and equipment shortages throughout China, it is becoming more and more challenging to predict supply and demand balance and its impact on pricing.
In anticipation of higher peak demand, we at Laufer are working to make sure adequate space supply, equipment flows, and service options are being made available to all customers to make this a smooth peak for all of us.
Our #1 priority as always is to help maintain our customers’ competitiveness, to keep your cargo flowing as quickly and as consistently as possible, and to continue to communicate effectively along the way. Our nimbleness, market awareness, and “Built Different” philosophy enable us to do this - as your partner.
Thank you very much for all your support.
